Doug was a career veteran of Toyota Australia for more than 38 years prior to the cessation of the Automotive Industry in Australia.
His final position as Divisional Manager, Manufacturing, had him responsible for overall leadership of the company’s manufacturing operations and the production of approximately 100,000 Camry, Camry Hybrid and Aurion domestic and export vehicles each year. In the last 4 years of operation this included managing the successful transition of over 2000 Manufacturing employees to achieve their personal career transition intentions and to leave an outstanding legacy to mark the more than 50 years of manufacturing Toyota vehicles in Australia.
Doug was involved in many firsts for the industry and focused on the foundations of the Toyota Production System and the Toyota Way, which started his life long journey of learning the tools, systems and principles that he applied himself and taught others on his career journey encompassing management positions in Human Resources, Purchasing, Supplier Development, Corporate Planning, Project Management through the many tumultuous challenges faced by the Automotive Industry in Australia over the years.
Doug built a deep appreciation during this time that true Lean thinking at its essence, is developing the capability and empowering people and it can be successfully applied to any endeavour and therefore holds enormous potential for social and economic benefit to Australian Society and therefore he remains passionate in pursuit of these goals.
